The Palomino specialty club credits Mark Youngs of Coulee Dam and calls his approach Color Blend Breeding. Its history describes selection among tawny offspring, successive working names and the development of Golden and Lynx. The club records Lynx recognition in 1957 and Golden in 1958; ARBA's brief overview uses 1957 for the breed. These dates answer slightly different questions. One marks acceptance of a population, while another identifies acceptance of an additional variety. A complete timeline should retain both. The breeder's surname is given here as Youngs, following the specialty club, although other summaries use Young.
