A brown-based coat is not a complete genetic profile

Knowledge for understanding and preserving Argente Brun.

ARBA's description of chocolate undercolor helps identify the phenotype expected in the Brun. It does not publish a DNA survey of the living breed. The distinction matters because a recognizable coat may be produced within breeding families with different histories. When discussing conservation, avoid equating visual uniformity with either genetic sameness or genetic security. A responsible scientific article should identify the population sampled, method used and trait investigated before applying a result to this breed. Until that evidence is available, the observed coat and documented standard remain the sound starting points.
