Animal, landscape
and the people between them.
Sheep connect land and textiles as well as land and food. Understanding a fleece includes understanding how people used it and which characteristics they selected. This is a useful route into teaching why losing a breed can mean losing material qualities and traditions alongside genetic variation.
Grazing also needs boundaries. Forage availability, recovery time and stocking influence how land responds. Preservation should explain how living flocks can be maintained within healthy farming systems. A breed's ability to survive difficult conditions is not evidence that it benefits from poor nutrition or that any landscape can support unlimited animals.
