Follow the story behind the name.
Clun Forest sheep take their name from the Shropshire area around Clun. Upland farming conditions and continued selection for useful production shaped the breed.
Clun Forest is named for the area near the Shropshire market town of Clun, close to the Welsh border. Here 'forest' describes upland grazing country, not a breed developed in dense woodland.
The breed has a dual-purpose farming role and medium wool. Its regional setting offers a useful example of sheep shaped by upland agriculture rather than solely by exhibition standards. A generally docile reputation should remain separate from promises about an individual sheep.
