University extension links the C-series to TYR and explains the chinchilla effect on agouti hair bands. The name describes a pigmentation phenotype in rabbits, not descent from the South American chinchilla. The Standard's small scale and its coat can therefore be discussed as different traits. Do not infer that preserving one color allele preserves the entire breed. Body type, breeding history and all the other inherited variation are also part of the population. The genetic explanation is a learning aid; it is not an individual DNA test or a census of remaining families.
