ARBA describes a lithe, elegant rabbit and gives a 9.5-pound maximum. The American Belgian Hare Club also distinguishes the familiar Rufus coloration from its tan variety, including black, blue, chocolate and lilac. The usual reddish photograph therefore should not imply that no other accepted appearance exists. The name Hare describes resemblance, while the animal remains a rabbit. Its outline is worth showing in a full context: a tight head portrait cannot teach the length of limb, arch or overall proportions that make this breed visually distinctive.
