Illinois Extension identifies Partridge Cochins, White Wyandottes and rose-combed White Leghorns in the Rhode Island White’s foundation. The name does not make it simply a white color variety of the Rhode Island Red. Its horizontal, oblong body belongs to its utility identity. Breeding records should retain that separate population history, even when a flock’s purpose is ordinary eggs and meat rather than exhibition.
