The Poultry Club links the breed's Italian home with British imports of White stock through America around 1870 and Brown stock shortly afterward. It describes attempts to enlarge British White birds through crossing, followed by later utility selection. The present name therefore covers a history of differing breeding priorities rather than one unchanged imported flock.
