The Icelandic landrace description reproduced by Whippoorwill Farm allows a wide range of plumage colors, leg colors and comb forms. Crests can occur, but the description specifies clean shanks and four toes. This is a different preservation approach from selecting every bird toward one exhibition color. A varied flock can remain recognizably Icelandic while individual birds differ.

The keeper’s page warns readers to treat the document as a general description. Its references to imported flock groups concern particular North American conservation histories, not a guarantee that any mixed-color chicken is an Icelandic bird. For a prospective keeper, documented origin and continuity of breeding are therefore more useful than color alone. Reported maternal behavior and independence describe the landrace broadly; individual temperament and reproductive performance still require observation.
