Cochins illustrate how dramatic imports and exhibition fashion can change poultry breeding. Heavy feathering and a rounded appearance should be taught alongside the breed's maternal reputation. A broody hen's usefulness is different from sustained egg output. Neither feature should be treated as a universal performance guarantee for every line, and ornamental selection still needs to retain functional birds.
