Follow the story behind the name.
Lincolnshire breeders developed the Lincoln Red during the nineteenth century using local cattle and Shorthorn influences. Its name was shortened from Lincolnshire Red Shorthorn as the breed’s identity became more distinct.
Lincolnshire cattle were developed into Lincoln Red during Britain's nineteenth-century livestock improvement era. Their local history sits within the broader development of red Shorthorn-related cattle.
Deep red coats, substantial body size, and a beef-production role characterize the breed. Historical horned cattle and later selection should be considered within the relevant registry population rather than inferred from a single animal's appearance.
