Follow the story behind the name.

Belted Galloways share the southwestern Scottish background of Galloway cattle. The exact origin of the white belt is uncertain, so the familiar coat pattern should not be treated as a complete account of the breed’s ancestry.

Belted Galloway belongs to the Scottish Galloway tradition but developed as an identifiable belted population. Its story reflects cattle farming in a cold, wet landscape.

A broad white mid-body belt contrasts with the darker coat. The breed's beef and grazing role distinguishes it from Dutch Belted dairy cattle despite their shared visual motif. Scottish adaptation and production history are more informative than a nickname based on appearance.
