Jersey Buff: one named population within the wider group
Knowledge for understanding and preserving Other heritage turkey varieties.

Porter's Jersey Buff account describes a 1940s New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station program at Millville for a small-to-medium market turkey. It identifies Black, Bourbon Red and Broad Breasted Bronze influences in the breeding work. This is one distinct historical population within the wider heritage group, not an interchangeable name for every buff-colored turkey.
The breeder's color model places Jersey Buff's red factor on a black base, contrasting with Bourbon Red's bronze base. It describes pale flight and tail feather areas and a light face on tan poults. These differences show why superficial reddish-buff color is an incomplete identity test. This umbrella page can introduce the named variety while maintaining a clear boundary: Jersey Buff deserves a separate full profile and population record as the collection expands.
