The Rare Poultry Society describes the Buttercup comb as a single forward leader joined to a cup-shaped crown, with regular points around it and no definite spikes inside the cup. The female has a proportionately lower, smaller comb. Its account also highlights a British–American difference in earlobe preference. Readers should know which national standard an illustration is intended to demonstrate instead of assuming that every reported difference is a breed mistake.
